Because this house is handcrafted from albesia wood and painted, it is susceptible to weather damage over time. To extend its lifespan and keep the colors vibrant, we recommend applying a coat of clear polyurethane sealant once a year.

The included rope is sufficient for standard garden use, but if you live in a particularly high-wind area, you may want to secure the house further. You can easily swap the rope for a more rigid mounting bracket or add a secondary anchor point to the bottom of the gourd to prevent excessive swinging.

While the design focuses on the aesthetic gourd shape, proper airflow and drainage are essential for bird health. It is a good idea to inspect the bottom of the house upon arrival; if you find it lacks drainage, drilling a few small holes in the base will help keep the nest dry and prevent moisture buildup.

For the best results, hang the house in a quiet, partially shaded area that is protected from prevailing winds and direct afternoon sun. Aim for a height of 5 to 10 feet off the ground, preferably facing away from prevailing winds to keep the interior comfortable for nesting birds.
