Yes, this shim is designed to fit standard 26.0mm stems. However, ensure your stem's faceplate is designed for a 26.0mm clamp diameter, as this shim effectively reduces that opening to 25.4mm.

Stainless steel is an excellent choice here because it is thin, incredibly durable, and resistant to corrosion. It provides a secure, slip-free interface that won't deform over time like softer aluminum shims might.

While not strictly required, applying a very light layer of bicycle grease to the outside of the shim can help prevent creaking and make future adjustments easier. Avoid using carbon paste, as the grit is unnecessary for metal-on-metal interfaces.

We generally advise against using metal shims with carbon fiber handlebars unless the manufacturer explicitly states it is safe. Carbon bars are sensitive to clamping pressure, and a metal shim can create uneven stress points that may damage the carbon structure.

The shim is designed to be flexible enough to wrap around the bar easily. To keep it centered, place the shim on the handlebar first, then carefully position the stem over it, ensuring the shim is aligned with the stem's clamp area before tightening the bolts in an even, cross-pattern sequence.
