Start with a light coating. You want enough to make the surface slick, but applying too much can actually make the obstacle feel gummy or unpredictable. You can always add more if the slide still feels sluggish.

It will leave a visible layer of wax, which is necessary for the slide to work. While it isn't permanent, it will remain on the obstacle until it wears off from use or is cleaned away by the elements.

Spitfire wax is designed to be firm enough to hold its shape in your bag but soft enough to rub onto an obstacle without excessive force. If it feels too hard on a particularly cold day, warming it up in your hands for a moment usually helps.
