The North Face Assault Tent

The Assault 2 is designed as a minimalist, high-performance shelter for backcountry explorers. While its FUTURELIGHT 3L fabric is waterproof and breathable, it is best suited for alpine environments where weight savings and weather protection are the primary concerns.

The internal DAC Featherlite NSL poles are designed to maximize interior headroom, making the tent feel less cramped than typical ultralight shelters. Because the poles are set up inside, you can pitch the tent while staying protected from the elements, which is a significant advantage in stormy conditions.

Despite the name, this is strictly a one-person shelter. With a floor area of 21.31 square feet, it is optimized for a solo adventurer who wants extra space for gear rather than a shared sleeping arrangement.

The tent features a two-way zipper that allows for versatile top venting, which helps manage condensation. While it is highly breathable thanks to the FUTURELIGHT laminate, proper airflow management is still recommended in humid conditions.

The total weight of 1.75 lbs includes everything that comes with the tent, while the trail weight of 1.625 lbs represents the minimum weight needed to set it up, excluding items like stuff sacks or extra stakes. This distinction helps you calculate exactly how much weight you are carrying on the trail.
