Yes, the press is designed as a dual-purpose brewer. The stainless-steel mesh filter is fine enough to handle both coarse coffee grounds and loose-leaf tea, though we recommend rinsing the filter thoroughly between uses to prevent flavor transfer.

The Hario Noir Press has a 16-ounce capacity, which is typically considered a 2-cup size. It is perfectly sized for one large mug or two smaller servings.

The carafe is made from high-quality heatproof borosilicate glass, which is designed to withstand thermal shock and regular handling. While it is glass, it is durable enough for daily use provided you handle it with the same care you would any other quality glassware.

The superfine mesh filter is highly effective at trapping grounds and leaves. While French press brewing naturally allows some fine sediment to pass through compared to paper filters, this design minimizes grit significantly for a smooth, clean cup.

The press is straightforward to clean. You can disassemble the plunger assembly to rinse the mesh filter thoroughly, and the glass carafe can be washed with warm, soapy water. We recommend hand washing to maintain the matte black finish.
