Black Diamond Pearlock Carabiner

The Pearlock is an HMS-style carabiner with a large, rounded rope-bearing surface. This shape is specifically designed to accommodate a Munter hitch or various belay devices, allowing for smooth rope movement and reduced friction during belaying.

Unlike many carabiners where the sleeve locks onto the nose, the Pearlock's sleeve engages directly on the gate. This design choice prevents the locking mechanism from freezing up or getting jammed with debris, making it much more reliable in cold or wet climbing conditions.

At 76 grams, it is relatively lightweight for a full-sized HMS carabiner. Black Diamond achieves this by using a hot-forged I-beam construction, which removes excess material from non-load-bearing areas without compromising the carabiner's structural integrity.

The Pearlock has a major axis strength of 23 kN. This is a standard, robust rating for a belay carabiner, ensuring it can handle the forces generated during dynamic belaying and general climbing use.

With a gate opening of 22.15 mm, the Pearlock provides ample space for clipping ropes or belay devices. It is wide enough to make clipping efficient while maintaining the structural profile needed for its HMS classification.
