While the ceramic construction is robust, we recommend hand-washing your chawan with warm water and a soft sponge. This preserves the glaze and prevents potential damage from the high heat and abrasive detergents used in dishwashers.

While specifically designed for the mechanics of whisking matcha, its wide shape makes it a versatile vessel for any tea that benefits from a larger surface area for cooling or aroma appreciation. However, it is not ideal for teas that require steeping with an infuser basket.

Ceramic is an excellent material for matcha because it retains heat well, keeping your tea at the optimal temperature while you drink. It also offers a tactile, grounded weight in the hand that enhances the meditative, ritualistic nature of preparing traditional green tea.

High-quality ceramic glazes are generally resistant to staining, but matcha is a potent pigment. To keep the interior pristine, rinse the bowl immediately after use rather than letting the tea residue dry on the surface.
