Because this ring spins independently when someone tries to grip it with pliers or a wrench, standard tools cannot get enough purchase to loosen the nut, effectively locking the wheel in place.

The key is essential for removing your wheels, so it is critical to keep it in a safe place. Unfortunately, if the key is lost, there is no universal override, and you will likely need to have the nut professionally removed by a bike shop using specialized extraction tools.

These skewers are designed to replace standard quick-release or bolt-on skewers on most standard bicycles. However, they are not compatible with thru-axle systems, so check your bike's axle type before purchasing.
