Surly Ogre Frameset

Gnot-Boost is Surly’s proprietary dropout design that allows the frame to accept both 142mm and 148mm (Boost) rear hub standards. It gives you more flexibility when sourcing wheels or upgrading components later, as you aren't locked into a single hub width.

Yes. The Ogre features horizontal slotted dropouts, which allow you to tension your chain without needing a separate chain tensioner. This makes it a great candidate for a clean, low-maintenance single-speed or internal gear hub setup.

The frame provides clearance for tires up to 3 inches wide (76.2 mm). This allows you to run high-volume rubber for extra comfort and traction on rougher terrain.

Absolutely. It is designed specifically for utility and adventure, featuring extensive mounting points for racks, fenders, and multiple water bottle cages. The 4130 Chromoly steel construction also provides the durability and vibration-dampening qualities needed for loaded touring.

The E.D. (electro-deposition) coating provides a significant layer of protection against corrosion, both inside and outside the tubes. While it makes the frame much more resistant to the elements for year-round riding, it is still good practice to use a frame saver spray if you live in a particularly wet or salty climate.

The Ogre is designed as a rigid frameset, meaning it is geometry-corrected for a rigid fork. While you could technically install a suspension fork, it would likely alter the handling and geometry significantly, so we recommend sticking with the intended rigid setup for the best ride quality.
