Wood-firing is a traditional technique where the kiln is fueled by wood rather than gas or electricity. This process creates unique, unpredictable variations in the glaze and texture, meaning no two cups are exactly alike.

Because this is a handcrafted, wood-fired ceramic piece, we recommend hand washing it gently to preserve the integrity of the clay and finish. We advise against using it in the microwave to avoid thermal shock.

The cup has an earthy, tactile finish characteristic of Mino-yaki pottery. It is designed to feel substantial and grounded, offering a grippy, organic texture rather than a smooth, polished surface.

While the ceramic material naturally retains heat to keep your tea warm, the thickness of the walls helps insulate the exterior. However, like any ceramic vessel, it will become warm to the touch, so handle with care if the tea is freshly boiled.
