While the hand-forged steel is incredibly durable, this tool is designed for precision work like dividing perennials and planting bulbs, not for breaking ground in rocky or compacted soil. Its narrow blade is best suited for detailed tasks where you need to maneuver around existing root systems.

The T-handle provides excellent leverage and control, allowing you to apply force directly behind the blade with one hand. It is particularly comfortable when you are kneeling, as it keeps your wrist in a neutral position while you work.

Like all high-quality wooden tools, the ash handle will last longer if kept clean and dry after use. We recommend occasionally rubbing the wood with boiled linseed oil to prevent it from drying out or cracking over time.

This is a short-handled tool specifically designed for kneeling or sitting while you work, so your height won't impact its effectiveness. If you prefer to stand while digging, you would be better served by a long-handled spade.

The blade is sharpened on both sides of the point, which allows it to slice through soil and roots cleanly from multiple angles. This design makes it much easier to cut through dense root balls when dividing plants compared to a standard, blunt-edged spade.
