Leyland Cypress Trees

Bareroot means the trees are shipped without soil around their roots while they are in a dormant state. This method is highly effective for establishing strong root systems, but it requires you to plant them promptly upon arrival to ensure they do not dry out.

For a dense, solid privacy hedge, space the trees about 6 to 8 feet apart. If you prefer a slightly looser look or want to save space, you can stretch that distance to 10 feet, though it will take longer for the branches to touch and create a continuous wall.

Leyland Cypress are known for their rapid growth rate, often adding 2 to 3 feet of height per year once they are established. You can expect them to reach a significant size within just a few growing seasons.

Leyland Cypress are very adaptable, but they thrive best in USDA hardiness zones 6 through 10. They prefer full sun and well-draining soil, though they are quite tolerant of various soil types once they have settled in.

They naturally grow into a uniform, pyramidal shape, so heavy pruning is rarely necessary. If you want to encourage a denser hedge or control the width, you can lightly trim the sides in late spring or early summer.
