While Cordyline 'Baueri' is primarily marketed as an outdoor plant for patios or landscapes, it can thrive indoors if placed in a very bright, sunny spot. However, it will perform best and maintain its vibrant color when given ample access to natural sunlight.

This plant prefers at least six hours of direct sunlight daily to maintain its deep burgundy foliage. While it can tolerate partial shade, too little light may cause the leaves to lose their intense color and the plant to become leggy.

Once established, this plant is quite drought-tolerant. You should water it when the top inch or two of soil feels dry to the touch, ensuring the pot has proper drainage to prevent water from sitting at the roots.

Hardiness depends on your location. It is suitable for year-round outdoor planting in zones 9-11, but in cooler climates (zones 4-8), it must be kept in a container and brought indoors or into a protected garage before the first frost.

You can expect this Cordyline to reach a mature height of about 5 feet with a spread of 3 to 5 feet. Its moderate growth rate means it won't take over your space immediately, but it will eventually become a substantial focal point.
