The bag is incredibly robust, with a weight capacity of up to 500 lbs. While you likely won't reach that limit in daily use, the reinforced double-layer base and heavy-duty 24 oz. canvas ensure it can handle heavy groceries, books, or gear without strain.

The open-top style is designed for quick access rather than security. It is excellent for errands or carrying items that need to be grabbed easily, but it does not offer a zipper or snap closure to keep contents contained if the bag tips over.

This model features a 6-inch handle drop, which is designed primarily for hand-carrying or carrying in the crook of your arm. It is generally too short to comfortably wear over the shoulder, especially if you are wearing a bulky coat.

The 'Off the Grid' version maintains the same legendary construction as the classic Boat and Tote, including the 24 oz. canvas and double-stitched seams, but features a distinct, limited-edition embroidery design. It offers the same durability and Maine-made quality you expect from the original.

Because it is made from heavy-duty 24 oz. cotton canvas, the bag is quite stiff when new. It will soften slightly with use and age, but it is built to hold its shape and stand upright on its own.
