Orion Safety Film Solar Filter

This filter is precision-engineered specifically for 8-inch Orion reflector telescopes. While it may physically fit other 8-inch reflectors, we strongly advise against using it on any telescope model other than those specified to ensure a secure, light-tight fit that is critical for eye safety.

The Orion Safety Film produces a neutral, natural-looking white image of the sun. This is generally preferred by astronomers as it allows for better contrast when observing sunspots and solar granulation compared to filters that produce a blue or orange tint.

Before every observation, hold the filter up to a bright light source—not the sun—and inspect the film for any pinholes, scratches, or tears. If you notice any light leaking through the material, do not use the filter, as it can no longer guarantee safe viewing.

Yes, this filter is suitable for both visual observation and solar photography. However, always ensure the filter is securely attached to the front of your telescope before pointing it at the sun, and never look through the viewfinder or eyepiece without the filter properly installed.

The safety film is delicate and should be handled by the edges only. If dust accumulates, use a gentle puff of air or a very soft brush; avoid using liquid cleaners or abrasive cloths, as these can easily damage the specialized coating.
