Tōsen Kiln Yunomi

Tokoname-yaki is a historic style of Japanese pottery originating from one of Japan's six ancient kiln sites. It is prized for its high-quality clay and traditional firing techniques, which result in durable, earthy vessels that are well-suited for tea service.

The cup is designed to be held in the palm of your hand, which allows you to gauge the temperature of your tea before taking a sip. Because it holds 120 ml, the vessel is small enough that the heat dissipates quickly, making it comfortable to hold once the tea is at a drinkable temperature.

To maintain the finish, we recommend hand washing with a mild detergent and a soft sponge. Avoid using abrasive scrubbers or harsh chemicals, as these can dull the matte texture over time.

While designed specifically for the ritual of tea, its compact size and elegant shape make it a versatile vessel for sake, espresso, or even small portions of chilled desserts.

The glaze is durable, but like any porous ceramic, it can pick up tannins from dark teas over time. Rinsing the cup shortly after use will help prevent staining and keep the matte finish looking clean.
