A convex base creates a slightly domed shape in your coffee puck, which helps water flow more evenly toward the edges of the basket. This can reduce channeling and improve extraction consistency, especially when you are using larger doses of coffee.

This base uses a standard M8 thread, which is compatible with the entire range of JoeFrex handles. If you are using a different brand of handle, you will need to verify that it also utilizes an M8 threaded connection.

You should measure the inner diameter of your espresso machine's filter basket with a digital caliper. It is essential to choose a tamper base that is a precise fit for your specific basket size to ensure full coverage of the coffee grounds.

While the stainless steel is durable and corrosion-resistant, we recommend hand washing the base with warm water and mild soap. Harsh dishwasher detergents can potentially dull the finish or damage the threaded connection over time.

At 120-250g, this base provides a solid, substantial feel that helps you apply consistent pressure. Because the weight is concentrated in the base, you may find you need to exert slightly less physical force to achieve a level, compressed puck compared to lighter, plastic-based tampers.
