Igura Toshiya Ao-Mishima Yunomi

Ao-mishima is a traditional Japanese pottery technique where stamped patterns are inlaid with slip. While white slip is standard, this piece uses a striking blue, creating a distinct, modern contrast against the matte black ceramic.

It is designed for daily use. While the craftsmanship is artisanal, the Kiyomizu-yaki ceramic is durable enough for regular tea rituals, provided you handle it with the care typical of handmade pottery.

At 60 ml (roughly 2 ounces), this is a small, traditional yunomi intended for concentrated servings of sencha or other delicate teas. It is significantly smaller than a standard Western-style coffee mug.

The flared tulip silhouette is specifically designed to be held comfortably near the rim, where the cup is cooler. The textured matte finish also provides a secure, tactile grip, making it easier to hold than a smooth, glazed surface.

We recommend hand washing with mild soap and warm water. Avoid the dishwasher, as the high heat and abrasive detergents can damage the delicate blue inlay and the matte finish over time.
