Tezumi Yunomi

Unlike glazed porcelain, this cup is made from a porous clay body that absorbs small amounts of tea over time. This process allows the cup to develop a unique patina and color shift, making your specific vessel look different the more you use it.

Hand wash only with warm water and avoid using harsh detergents or the dishwasher, as the porous material can absorb soap residues. Because of the clay's absorbent nature, it is best to rinse it thoroughly after each use and let it air dry completely to prevent any lingering odors.

This yunomi is designed for traditional Japanese tea service, which typically involves smaller, concentrated servings rather than a large mug of tea. At 150ml (5.07 ounces), it is perfectly sized for enjoying high-quality loose leaf teas like sencha or gyokuro.

Kohiki Mishima is a traditional decorative method where patterns—in this case, chrysanthemums—are stamped or incised into the clay. A white slip is then applied and wiped away, leaving the inlay only within the grooves to create a subtle, textured contrast against the darker clay.

The porous, thicker ceramic body provides better insulation than thin porcelain, helping to keep your tea warm while remaining comfortable to hold. However, as with any ceramic vessel, use caution if you are pouring boiling water directly into it.
